It was the first public appearance after the crippling accident three years back of actor Jagathy Sreekumar. The event had heavyweights from the political field and the media was in full attendance. In the midst of the proceedings on stage, there unfurled a very impromptu drama when Jagathy’s daughter Sreelakshmi from his second wife Kala ran on to the stage and hugged and kissed her father.
Sreelakshmi spent a good ten minutes with the actor on stage before she left as suddenly as she came but not before creating high drama. Present on the occasion were also Jagathy’s elder daughter Parvathy Shone and her politician husband Shone along with senior politician P.C. George. Parvathy later went on record saying that Sreelakshmi was accompanied by goondas and had stage managed the entire episode for political and financial gains.
Reacting to this statement Sreelakshmi’s mother Kala says, “She was not accompanied by any goondas but by her cousin and two of her friends. Sreelakshmi had gone to St Alphonsa Church to pray and it was after she got out of the church that she came to know that such a function was happening nearby. It has been three years since my daughter has seen her father and she could not stop herself and decided to see him. She also thought that since it was a public function, she would not be manhandled or hassled in any way.” Kala adds that Sreelakshmi felt that it was the blessings and strength that St Alphonsa gave her that made her attempt such a bold act.
Sreelakshmi is currently doing her final year BCom in Thevara College and Kala speaks about the very emotional moments and exchange between the father and daughter. Kala says, “She explained that she was in her final year and that she is happy. He understood everything, cried, clasped her hand and kissed her.” Kala adds that Sreelakshmi was forced to resort to this drastic step since she was kept away from seeing and spending time with her father.
Kala also mentions, “They don’t have to accept her but at least allow her to see her father! We don’t have any anger towards anyone and Sreelakshmi’s father repeatedly told us both not to react to anything they say or do which is why we are not reacting.” The ‘they’ here refers to Jagathy’s first wife and family. Kala says that Sreelakshmi is busy with her classes and her dance practice because of which she is not signing any new films.
