Karnataka Bar Council to boycott Lokayukta’s programmes
BENGALURU: The Karnataka Bar Council will boycott all programmes attended by Lokayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao in protest against alleged corruption in the institution headed by him. They also alleged that the delay in registering an FIR in the case is an effort by Justice Rao to protect the culprits.
The Bar Council members held a meeting on Monday and passed several resolutions. They said that an FIR should be registered immediately against Justice Rao’s son Ashwin Rao, his associates Krishna Rao, Bhaskar and Syed Riyaz under Sections 7, 9, 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and for extortion.
“Already, important evidence of CCTV footage in Lokayukta office has been destroyed by the Lokayukta Registrar and he must also be held guilty of destroying evidence. The Bar Council calls upon advocates to boycott all programmes and proceedings attended by Justice Rao,” a release from the Council stated.
Mr P.P. Hegde, Council Chairman, announced that he will not share dais with Justice Rao on Tuesday during the graduation ceremony at JSS Law College in Mysuru.
“Advocates will hold black flags wherever Justice Rao attends functions. Bar Council will hold a protest in front of the Lokayukta office on Wednesday. All Bar Associations are requested to pass resolution against Bhaskar Rao,” he said.
