Sunny Leone waits with bated breath for hubby Daniel’s debut
Mumbai: There were many raised eyebrows when Sunny Leone, erstwhile adult film actress, made her way to Bollywood. Now she’s about five films old, out of which two have been blockbusters. The actress is also the host of one of MTV’s longest running reality shows, Splitsvilla. As far as showbiz goes in the country, it’s safe to say that Sunny is a much sought after name. She’s now waiting with bated breath for her husband Daniel Webber to make his debut in Bollywood. Unlike many of her counterparts, this actress seems not one bit hesitant to talk about her personal life. She has never shied away from admitting that Daniel’s support and companionship has been integral to her success.
The doting wife doesn’t seem insecure now that her dapper husband will be romancing heroines on screen. “I am not jealous at all. If I see him on screen with someone else, I won’t go, ‘Hey what are you doing’. We have certain rules that both of us have set for ourselves. It’s part of the entertainment quotient of a film. As long as you don’t cross certain boundaries, it’s all right,” she says.
For Sunny her ideal man had to be someone secure and smart. “By smart I don’t mean armed with a Master’s degree. He should be street smart. Also I’ve always liked physically fit men because I keep fit myself,” she says. Meeting her husband Daniel was a dream come true, she says. At that time she was staying in Los Angeles and he in New York. “He wooed me for about six weeks with flowers, cards and letters, since he couldn’t see me in person because of the distance. I remember he asked his friend, who lived an hour away from my home, to drop a chocolate rose at my doorstep. Another time he wrote me a letter… So all that was of course sweet and romantic. Also, Daniel and I have a lot in common. His parents are from Israel and Romania and mine were from India, so we were the first generation from our families living in the US. Thus we have a lot of family values and culture in common,” Sunny says.
She doesn’t seem to be able to stop there, “Talk to him for five minutes, he will make you smile and laugh. And he’s a total charmer. Even now that we have been married for so long, if he is leaving for a long trip, he leaves me a note or a small teddy bear,” she adds.
Sunny says that they make it a point to have breakfast together. “On days I am very tired, he makes me coffee. He’s what I call every woman’s dream man,” she adds.
Sunny reveals that Daniel’s entry into her life was soon after a huge personal tragedy. She lost her mother. “It was the worst thing. And then I felt that if God took away my mother, he sent Daniel to look after me, in her place. He was there with me through the whole process. Less than a year later, my father was diagnosed with cancer, and even then Daniel was there like a rock by my side. He’s my best friend, my lover and my husband all-in-one,” says the actress.
Ask her what’s been his most special romantic gesture and Sunny says, “It’s actually an emerald necklace with a diamond on it that he gifted me. It’s a family heirloom. Normally family jewellery is something mothers give daughters during their wedding. But that didn’t happen in my case. So this was the first piece of precious jewellery I got from his family. Its emotional value cannot be compared.”
While on the home front all is hunky dory for Sunny, sometimes controversies do rear their ugly heads. Recently, Celina Jaitley alleged that Sunny and Daniel who have rented out her flat have not been keeping it in good condition. It seems when Celina came in for a visit she was appalled by the mess in the house and immediately asked the couple move out. Not too long ago, even Rakhi Sawant made some jibes at her. “They are useless and baseless comments. It is unprofessional. You would never see an actor or actress speaking in such a bad manner as they have. So it’s their problem, I don’t care about it. I am here to do good work and I will focus on doing that.”
Speaking of work, her last film ‘Kuch Kuch Locha Hai’ was a dud at the box office and her upcoming ‘Mastizaade’ has run into trouble with the Censor board. “Yes Kuch Kuch Locha Hai didn’t do well and a flop does affect you. But these things happen and it’s beyond one’s control. As far as Mastizaade is concerned, well, it’s an adult comedy but God willing, it will get a good release,” she says.
Meanwhile she’s also working on her Hindi. “It has improved a lot, I practice every day, trying to learn new words,” says the actress who is also hosting a reality show on television. She has always loved watching reality shows she says. “It’s amazing how people transform and you see the real side of people. There are dynamic changes in their personalities. I enjoy observing the human psyche, in different scenarios,” she says.
Ask her how she is as a person, when the cameras go off, and you get adjectives like “goofy”, “clumsy”. You will never see me take life seriously. I like having fun and I care for people in my life,” she says.
