Haritha Haaram people’s scheme, says KCR at launch
CM launched the Haritha Haaram with fanfare at Chilkur in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy
Hyderabad: Calling Telangana ku Haritha Haaram a people’s programme and not a government one, Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday said greenery is the only cost effective option to ensure rains, prevent drought, protect the environment, health of people and prevent entry of wild animals moving into populated areas.
“Drought will vanish from Telangana in the next two years if Haritha Haaram is taken up in a big way. Each one should plant at least four saplings. It is not a government programme. It is a programme for your good. All sections of people should come forward and plant saplings at every available place. Greenery is the only way to save life,” he added.
The CM launched the Haritha Haaram with fanfare at Chilkur in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy after offering prayers at the famed Chilkur Balaji temple and planting a sapling there.
“Vikarabad had thick forest. Water flowing from Anantagiri Hills Musi through thick bushes of medicinal plants flowed into Gandipet. It has great medicinal properties. In fact there used to be a saying ‘Vikarabad ka hawa, lakho marijo ka dawa’ (Vikarabad air is medicine for lakhs of people).”
Saying that people destroyed their own treasure trove of forests; he recalled how multi-crore diamond merchants fled Surat after an outbreak of plague in hired jets in some cases and returned only after it was brought under control by a Telugu IAS officer S.R. Rao.
“We have to maintain cleanliness and greenery. Doma (mosquitoes) do not differentiate between an MLA, a minister and the CM. It is a socialist doma. It bites all and spreads malaria, brain fever and other diseases. Similarly, due to denudation of forests, animals like monkeys, elephants, tigers, wild boar enter human habitation for food,” he said.
