‘Rann’ing his own KPL raajya
Sandalwood star and owner of a KPL team talks about his plans for the team
He is known to immerse himself in the character he plays and put everything in his performance — on screen or even on the cricket pitch. No wonder then that his fan following is always soaring. As Karnataka Premier League 2015 is set to begin soon, we speak to Sudeep on what’s keeping him busy after the success of Ranna and why he decided to include three cricketers in his KPL team.
Cricketers like Robin Uthappa, Stuart Binny, Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Gopal have been a part of the league, so it was time that the actor got into some serious cricketing action.
All Stars team, co-owned by Raju Gowda and Sandalwood star Kiccha Sudeep will see the inclusion of former national cricketers Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi and David Johnson. We ask Sudeep why he decided to rope in cricketers alongside the stars and he explains, “Inclusion of these three cricketers was called for. It was time that we included these icons in our team to take it to another level. We have not been winning the matches in the previous years and these icons coming into the team will give the team a big boost. They have crossed their boundary line and they are the real cricket stars. KPL is for those players who play all through the year.”
He is as passionate about acting as he is about cricket and it shows in his matches, everytime he plays, be it for KPL or CCL, but is modest enough to state, “We bring about the entertainment element to the game. Although we try to do our best, we are no match for some of the good players in the other teams. It’s been a great learning experience and we have been improvising with every game, regardless of winning or losing. It’s an honour that KSCA has approached us for this. We are not cricketers and this is huge respect for us. The fans have given us so much love and we are happy that we have won a lot of hearts. We will start our preparations in a few days.”
Stars also take their time out and Sudeep is in that phase right now, as he reveals soaking in the success of Ranna, “I’m in my rest phase right now for a month. Another KS Ravi Kumar production will begin in the middle of this month. Ranna was a big hit, but hits are part and parcel of this industry. I enjoy the process and thinking about all the challenges initially, makes me smile. I feel that if it wasn’t for all the struggles, then this journey wouldn’t have been exciting.”
