Self-help, not coaching paved Gowtham Potru’s way
Gowtham's sister Ms Vasanta is a Ph.D in mathematics
Vijayawada: Civil services 30th rank holder Gowtham Potru is not a product of any coaching centre but his success is a proud result of his hard work and dedication towards the goal he dreamed since childhood.
According to Gowtham, his grandfather Potru Raghavaiah, a science teacher, was the reason why he dreamt of becoming a top official. Speaking to this newspaper Gowtham's father P. Muralidhar, a farmer, shared his son's success and the factors that aided to it.
"Though my wife and I are illiterate, my father and my wife's father were teachers. My father Raghavaiah used to tell Gowtham that becoming an officer is real success. Since then Gowtham developed an aspiration to become a civil servant and rejected many job offers and a chance to pursue MBA from IIM after completing his B. Tech.
He stayed home for a year preparing for civil services even before he became eligible for appearing for the exam when considered his age," he said. "Gowtham is a movie and sports buff. He often plays badminton, basketball, chess and also watches movies in different languages.
He always wanted to serve people directly and aimed for IAS for the same reason and appeared for UPSC exam even after securing 318 rank last year and becoming an IRS officer," his father added. Gowtham's sister Ms Vasanta is a Ph.D in mathematics and Gowtham's optional subject in civil was mathematics.
