Matthew Hoggard reveals he called Tony Blair a k**b during 2005 Ashes win

Mumbai/London: England’s 2005 Ashes triumph was undoubtedly one of their greatest victories of all time. Now in a shocking revelation, former England bowler Matthew Hoggard has revealed he called ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair a k**b (a rounded lump or ball, especially at the end or on the surface of something) during the celebrations.

Hoggard, who was instrumental in scripting the win for his team that beat Australia 2-1 in an epic series almost a decade ago, was in high spirits along with other members of the team, atop an open bus touring London following a visit to 10 Downing Street.

The entourage visited the Prime Minister’s house a day after the final Test at The Oval in September, which ended in a draw.

In a report in the ‘Daily Mail’, Hoggard told The Sun: “I called Tony Blair a k**b - that is true. We were coming out of No 10 and there were a bank of photographers on the far side. And he said, ‘I wonder what all these people want?’ So I just looked at him and said: ‘They want a photo, you k**b!"'

And that’s not all. Another member from the team Simon Jones said that skipper Michael Vaughan asked Blair’s son to get some alcohol for the team while they were at the PM’s residence.

“We were all calling Tony Blair ‘TB’. We all got to No 10 and there were just soft drinks. So Vaughany went over to this young lad and said, ‘Mate, sort this out, we need beer, we need wine.’ As this young lad comes back, Tony Blair says: ‘Have you met my son, Euan?’” Jones said.

Andrew Flintoff was at his mischievous best but could not handle the excess alcohol. “On the way back to the hotel Freddie (Flintoff) downed two bottles of champers at once. He took a bit of a nap and Harmy (Steve Harmison) took full advantage, drawing a few expletives on his forehead — glasses, moustache, full lot. We go to the lift in the hotel and he saw himself in the mirror and just went berserk. He started chasing Harmy round the lobby!” Jones concluded.
