Babu Antony says Tamil cinema is free of politics

He also says that actors do not interfere in a story or director’s job in Kollywood
Excited with the feedback received for national award winning film Kaaka Muttai, Mollywood actor Babu Antony feels it is the honest narration and straightforward story telling which worked wonders for the film at the box office, and won praise from the critics.
“I’m proud to have associated with a small, yet beautiful film like Kaaka Muttai. I’m amazed at the talent of the new breed of Tamil filmmakers. They have a great sense when it comes to casting. For example, I didn’t know who Manikandan, the director of the film, was. But he picked me to play a crucial character in the film,” he says proudly.
He also says that actors do not interfere in a story or director’s job in Kollywood, unlike in Malayalam movies where scriptwriters and filmmakers do not have an upper hand when it comes to decision making. Babu says, “There is enough space for everyone in the Tamil industry and it is free of politics. There have been instances of many trying to pull me down in Mollywood. However, I have no complaints. I have worked with almost all the superstars in south.”
The actor, who debuted in Tamil with Poovizhi Vasalile, was seen in notable roles in films like Attahasam, Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, Rowthiram, says, “Even now, if directors in different languages are approaching me, it means there is something which only I can do justice to. I’m eagerly looking forward to substantial roles from Kollywood filmmakers.”
