‘Gangs’ even put out ads: Paras Saklecha
The scam grew so brazen that ‘gangs’ involved in it gave out ads in local newspapers
Hyderabad: Ex-MLA Paras Saklecha, who has been fighting the Vyapam battle since 2000, claims after 2007, the scam grew so brazen that ‘gangs’ involved in it gave out ads in local newspapers seeking ‘interested candidates who needed impersonators’. Mr Saklecha said he had raised the issue in the Assembly several times.
“The scam was earlier limited to medical exams, but after 2009, it extended to various other departments such as teachers’ and police recruitment,” Mr Saklecha told the Deccan Chronicle over phone while on the way to Jabalpur for a court hearing.
“And that is why I have petitioned in court asking that the CM should also be questioned as to why, after coming to his notice in 2009, the scam continued in various exams,” Mr Saklecha, who penned a book on this issue, said.
He claims to have documents substantiating his allegations and says he has handed the papers over to the investigating special task force. “The STF is catching the small-level culprits. I have given them documents which prove that over 300 Vyapam officials are currently involved in this scam but they’ve not issued even a single notice. It was after my petition in the High Court that the STF issued a notice to the principal secretary,” Mr Saklecha said.
Mr Saklecha has also challenged the report on the irregularities and corruption in Vyapam exams conducted back in 2009. He claims the report is ‘defective’ and the arrested include either students, their parents or the impersonators.
“The STF or SIT are not focusing on high-level Vyapam officials who are involved in it. I demand that the CM, chief secretary of the state, the DGP and Vyapam chief be questioned.” he says.
Mr Saklecha said from 2000 to 2006, the scam remained tiny. After 2007 though, the money attracted larger gangs. He claims the 2009 exams saw the biggest corruption and he is seeking a probe.
