Irinjalakuda gets women’s police station
THRISSUR: A special women battalion will soon be formed in the state to combat atrocities against women and children, said home minister Ramesh Chennithala after inaugurating the first women’s police station rural at Irinjalakuda on Saturday.
He also promised, on the occasion, that steps will be taken to amend the PSC Act to help women apply to the force.
The women’s police station now housed at the DYSP’s office will soon be shifted to a new building which is under construction.
The station will have one sub- inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors, 25 civil police officers, eight senior civil police officers, one driver civil police officer and one part-time sweeper.
“The station limit spans the entire rural district and will entertain all cases if the accused and accuser are women,” said station Sub Inspector Sindhu P. V.
Cooperation minister C. N. Balakrishnan was the chief guest of the event. Chief whip Thomas Unniyadan presided the function.
Officers who excelled in the field were also felicitated on the occasion. The first women’s police station was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Thrissur city in 2012.
