Bengaluru: Carmelites to be boys too!
Bengaluru: Mount Carmel college is on the brink of a new chapter in its 67-year history. The iconic women’s college, which has occupied pride of place in the heart of every old Bengalurean, has finally opened its doors to boys. The announcement was made at the Bangalore University Academic Council Meeting held on Wednesday.
Two post graduate courses- Electronics and Nanotechnology, will now have room for men, too. According to Sr Arpana, Principal, Mount Carmel College, the institution has received a large number of queries for these two courses in particular, from male students. “We wrote a letter to the state government seeking permission to admit boys, starting from this academic year,” she said. “Both BU and the state have agreed to this.”
MCC will remain a women’s college for the undergraduate and PUC sections as of now. “The expansion in the PG section was due to high demand,” said a spokesperson from the college. “There are no plans to admit boys in the undergrad courses right now.” That’s a wall that will take a while to breach!
