Public transport in ‘One colour, One city’ theme
The bus operators of have time till the end of this year to change the colour scheme
KOCHI: The red bus, the iconic colour of public transport service in Kochi, will soon pave the way for change of colour with the city opting for blue as its colour signifying the proximity to the verdant backwaters and the sea. The Kochi Corporation has already launched an official programme to declare blue as the colour of the city under the project ‘One Colour One City’.
The bus operators have begun to adopt the colour scheme grudgingly with select buses operating in the city service opting for a fresh coat of painting. The bus operators of have time till the end of this year to change the colour scheme. Although the bus operators are free to change the colour scheme some of the service providers are already on the same thing,
“We will adhere to the time schedule of changing the colour of the buses by the year end. Thereafter we will not renew the fitness certificate if the bus owner have not changed it”, said KM Shaji, regional transport officer Ernakulam. The bus operators have also decided to comply with the change. The decision has been taken after consulting with the bus operators, said K.B. Suneer district secretary of the Private Bus Operators Association. The change of colour will not cause any additional expenditure as mot bus operators will provide a fresh coat of colour to all vehicles in every year. “Changing from red to blue is not going to be an additional expenditure for most operators,” he said.
