Pinning his hopes on Acha Din
Padmaraj is ecstatic about sharing screen space with Mammootty again in Acha Din
Contrary to what many people think, it is not a bed of roses for most star children. The expectations are often high and a cross to bear but the advantage of an instant recall in a very competitive industry is a huge positive. When Padmaraj, son of yesteryear actor Ratheesh, made a debut 12 years after his father’s demise, he did not let down the image his father had created. Padmaraj played a pivotal role in the Mammootty-starrer Fireman and has shared screen space with the superstar yet again in Acha Din that released last week. Padmaraj and his siblings who lost their mother last year have a big reason to cheer — Padmaraj’s and actor sister Parvathy’s films are releasing simultaneously in a big play of coincidence.
The light-eyed actor is ecstatic about having worked with Mammootty again. He says, “When I was offered this role with Mammukka, my levels of nervousness were noticeably lower. More than nervousness what I felt was the confidence that I could carry off the role, thanks to the support he gave me in my debut film.” Padmaraj though admits to feeling a tad nervous for a different reason, “In Fireman I had a small role, but in Acha Din I am there throughout the film and I have a lot more conversations and action sequences with Mammukka.” What Padmaraj cherishes is the learning ground that director Marthandan provided. Padmaraj has a lot of hopes pinned on this film, “When I heard the script, I was sure that this role would pave the way for other roles. Through this role I can prove my mettle because my character in this film has many shades.”
The four siblings are used to taking care of themselves and Padmaraj is not looking at signing films left, right and centre. He states, “I am being selective because we don’t have parents to guide us and it is up to each one of us to choose and make independent decisions about our career.” Happy about the rare phenomenon of two siblings having their films release on the same day, Padmaraj mentions, “We have not discussed our scripts or movies in detail with each other. We have been brought up in an atmosphere where we have been given our individual space and while we do ask for an opinion the final decision is solely ours, be it right or wrong. If Parvathy decides to do a film, she will do it.” So, it is a double blessing for the brother-sister duo.
