After a successful stint as an actress on the small screen, Preetika Rao has launched a music video where she has recreated the Bollywood classic Na Tum Humein Jano. Excerpts from an interview:
How did the song happen?
Singing was on my mind as my Beintehaa co-actors would keep asking me why I didn’t take it up. I had trained in Hindustani classical and ghazals in school. I was looking for a teacher after the show ended and my sister introduced me to Anuradha Paudwalji. Her son Aditya is a composer and once we started jamming, I told him that I want ed to sing a number that has an old world charm to it.
Tell us about the video shoot. Why is the man’s face not revealed in the video?
The video has been directed by Amit Masurkar of Sulemani Keeda fame. Amit suggested that we don’t focus on the male character, so that the attention isn’t taken away from me.
Who from the Beintehaa team attended the launch?
They were all there — Harshad, Suchitra, Naved, Vivek. It couldn’t get better. They were all instrumental in encouraging me. I would often practice singing with Naved and Neil.
What else have you been doing during this break?
I have been travelling. The last place I visited was a holy shrine at Vrindavan. I also visited Delhi, which is gorgeous. Travel is always on my mind.
