Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's brainchild ‘AP Speaks’, a citizen-engaging mobile application, is yet to get the desired public attention despite its launch in February this year. While the download numbers for the app are dismal, the few who make suggestions using the app do not get a reply.
The CM had come up with several incentives and support for college students interested in developing smartphone applications useful to government as well as public.
As part of it, special app development centres were set up in every district across AP under skill development programme.
A month later, Mr Naidu launched ‘AP Speaks’, a first of its kind application in India, on twitter. The app enabled public to interact with government and leave suggestions and complaints regarding their surroundings and the schemes.
“We are a listening government. Speak to us through our app 'AP Speaks' with your ideas & feedback”, Naidu had tweeted.
The initiative received acclaims from youngsters and social media giant Facebook. Face-book, on its official page, lauded Mr Naidu for his brainchild 'AP Speaks' and credited it to be the only such app for government in the country.
Meanwhile, the app has been downloaded only around 1,000 times from Google play store by users.
Meanwhile, users who continue to offer suggestions to government through the app don't get a reply from authorities concerned. One such complainant K. Yeleati of West Godavari used the app to register a complaint: “At Sreesailam temple the Mahamrut-yunjaya homam and other homams are not performed properly.” However, none of the ideas given by users have received a reply.
