Bureaucrats not ready to take municipal secretary’s post
Hyderabad: After senior officer Giridhar Aramane’s exit from the ministry of municipal affairs and urban development, Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu is said to be finding it tough to appoint a new person in his place after several senior officers reportedly expressed disinterest.
They were said to have conveyed the same to chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao in their personal meetings with him, informed sources in the government said.
It may be recalled that Mr Aramane had sought a transfer from the department after differences with minister for municipal affairs P. Narayana. Mr Aramane was transferred as secretary of APPSC, a rather low-profile posting. Another senior officer, Dr Sambasiva Rao, had earlier opted for transfer and went to the TTD as executive officer.
The senior officers’ disinterest emanates from two counts: while the first one is obviously Mr Narayana, who has been calling the shots with regard to construction of the new capital, Amaravati, the second has been the appointment of Mr Srikanth as chief of CRDA. Since Mr Srikanth is a junior level officer and said to be sending out instructions to a host of departments, no senior is inclined to take his orders.
Officers have complained that some of the directives of the minister cannot be implemented and they may face trouble later in case they are carried forward. There was even a story doing the rounds in the Andhra Pradesh secretariat on Tuesday that the Chief Minister has toyed with the idea of creating a separate wing for construction of the capital to clip the wings of municipal administration department. The name of Ajay Jain, who is presently looking after Infrastructure and Investments, is also being circulated to head the wing.
