Nagam Janardhan Reddy embarks on ‘Bachao Telangana’
Rs 15,000 crore enough to complete 34 ongoing projects
Karimnagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive council member Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Friday slammed Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for delaying the completion of various irrigation projects across the state. He visited many undergoing projects in the district under his “Bachao Telangana Mission” programme and spoke to reporters here on Friday.
Mr Reddy regretted that many irrigation projects were not completed because the state government had failed to plan their execution.
“The TRS had lamented the lethargic progress of irrigation projects in previous governments. But the fate of the projects has remained the same even after the pink party completed 14 months in office,” he said.
The former legislator claimed that Rs 15,000 crore was enough to complete the ongoing 34 major and minor projects and a total of 30 lakh acre of ayacut could be irrigated.
“Chandrasekhar Rao is misleading the public under the guise of re-engineering the projects. But, we (BJP) don’t compromise with meting out justice to the farming community,” he asserted.
The BJP leader suggested that the government extend financial support and provide rehabilitation facilities to the evacuees of the irrigation projects. He cautioned of protests if any project was shelved, citing the government’s decision to cancel construction of a reservoir near Thotapalli village of Bejjenki mandal.
Mr Reddy also faulted the TRS-led government for not taking measures to support the farming community, which was facing a severe crisis due to dry spells. He stated that the BJP’s mission had been taken up to protect the state from being looted in the pretext of new projects. He added that he would prepare a report on the status of all the projects and submit it to the Central government.
