Language isn’t a barrier for me any more: Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee Pannu opens up about the roles in her upcoming Tamil films
Taapsee Pannu is on a roll, having done several successful films from different industries this year. The actress is excited that she is playing contrasting characters in two of her upcoming films in Tamil. While Selvaraghavan’s Kaan, which has Simbu in the lead, has her in an out-and-out action avatar, Thiru’s untitled film with Jai has her essaying a traditional Tamil girl for the first time in her career.
This Aadukalam star, who was busy with Hindi and Telugu flicks for some time, says her short break from K’town was worthwhile and that it is always fun and challenging to take up characters which are completely antithetical.
She tells us, “I’m playing a serious role in Kaan — I will be seen in full-fledged action mode from beginning to end. Though I can’t reveal much about it, I play someone from the defence wing who works for the country — but no, I’m not wearing khaki or any special uniform in the movie. Though I played a similar character in Baby which released earlier this year, this has a different dimension and appearance and has more screen time in it.”
Though the lanky lass says that her character in Thiru’s film isn't new — that of a traditional girl from a small town like Kumbakonam — she finds it special as she hasn’t portrayed something like this before. She says, “I have done such roles in Telugu, but this is the first time I’m playing one in Tamil. The credit goes to the director for choosing me for the role.”
Quizzed on how it feels to be a pan-Indian star, the actress replies that she doesn’t consider language a barrier any more. “I’m happy that I have proved my mettle in different industries. In fact, it is a privilege to work in various industries as I have the option to choose, and select the best character if I’m approached from two or three industries,” she says excitedly.
Taapsee says she is longing to watch the award-winning film Kaaka Muttai as she has been hearing good things about it. The actress finally adds that she would grab the offer
of playing a de-glamourised role if at all it comes her way as she finds emoting it fun and challenging.
