Javed Miandad hits back at Anurag Thakur’s comments
“Our players also feel unsafe and uncomfortable playing against India in India” Miandad remarked
Islamabad Former legendary Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad, on Monday strongly criticised the statement of BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and said the immature attitude was against the spirit of the game.
“Our players also feel unsafe and uncomfortable playing against India in India but we always responded positively and were ready to play there (in India),” he remarked.
Miandad said many international teams had played against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates and such a statement by the BCCI was just a childish excuse which would not serve political and cricketing relations between the two countries.
He added: “Indo-Pak series is a must for the people of the sub-continent, even bigger than the Ashes played between Australia and England and it must happen,” he was quoted as saying by samaa.tv.
He hoped that an intervention at higher level by Indian authorities would resolve the issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that Miandad’s reaction came after the BCCI Secretary’s statement in which he had said, “Cricket cannot be played when the security and peace of our nation is affected. Playing sports is a different thing, but our internal security is important”.
