Computer science engineering seat costs Rs 15 lakh

This year the prices of seats in Telangana have almost doubled

Hyderabad: Prices of NRI and management seats are skyrocketing with the quantum of seats available in the category going down. In a record of sorts, the prices of NRI seats in the much sought-after computer science engineering have touched the Rs 15 lakh mark. The minimum price for a seat in any of the affiliated colleges, irrespective of their reputation, is now Rs 2 lakh.

This year the prices of seats in both engineering and medical colleges in Telangana have almost doubled from the previous years. Medical colleges too are quoting high prices.
Even as TS Eamcet counselling comes to a close, seats in private engineering colleges are still up for sale in the NRI and management quotas in some colleges.
Private secretaries of top ministers and functionaries are on the lookout for seats in premier courses that are still available. Even for them, the quoted prices are sky high. The private secretary to a minister said he was asked Rs 16 lakh for a seat in the computer science branch.
“There is still huge demand for seats in the CSE branch. Other branches it is easier to get. But the prices will touch Rs 20 lakh in a few days,” a negotiator for a top college said. Computer science engineering is the top selling course with Telugu parents. As a matter of fact, even in Indian Institutes of Technology almost 80 per cent of the CSE students are from Telugu states.
IIT Hyderabad received 20 students among the top 1,000 JEE advanced ranks, and all of them chose CSE. It was reported in these columns that the price tag of a medical seat in private medical colleges in the city touched the Rs 1 crore mark. After that, medical seats were even sold for Rs 1.2 crore.
Both engineering and medical colleges were at risk of reduced seats this year due to JNTU Hyderabad and MCI inspections. Seats were reduced by huge numbers in engineering colleges, which turned out to be the driving force pushing prices up.
