I find it bizarre when people call me a fashionista: Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone is enjoying a very coveted position in the industry today. And the actress makes no bones about admitting that.
“I would be lying if I said that people don’t come up to me and say they would love to be in my shoes. But honestly, such compliments make me feel very awkward. I am actually a very shy person,” she says. Deepika, who is also seen as one of the most well turned out actresses of her times, doesn’t think of herself as a style icon. “I find it bizarre that people think of me as a style icon or a fashionista, because that’s not who I am. I have no interest in fashion or style to that extent. I have professionals who put things together for me. My everyday style is very basic,” she says.
The actress, who spends most of her time in Mumbai, says that even though the city is her current home, her heart is still in Bengaluru. “Mumbai feels like home and the city has given me a lot but you cannot take away the Bangalorian in me, rather the South Indian in me. The one thing we do when I go home is that we make no plans. A lot of times I don’t even inform anyone that I’m coming home. I like keeping it low key, especially when I go just for the weekend. If I’m going for a longer time we plan a trip together. I like helping my mom with house work and just generally chilling at home,” Deepika says.
Coming to the other aspect of her personal life, Ranveer Singh, and them being chased around by the paparazzi frequently, she says, “You can’t avoid being in the public eye. For now, people should look forward to our chemistry in Bajirao Mastani. After Ram-Leela, we are hoping we live up to our own expectations.”
On the work front, she could well be one of the most talked about names in the industry. There are speculations about her being associated in several big-ticket projects, including a film under the Yash Raj banner with Hrithik Roshan. But she clarifies that it’s not true. “I finished shooting for Tamasha two days ago and Bajirao Mastani is still under production. The shoot will continue for another two to three months. I haven’t signed anything else as of now. So everything people have been hearing isn’t true,” she says.
Meanwhile, there was also some talk about Shah Rukh Khan being miffed with her over a post on social media, about the Bajirao-Dilwale clash. But there’s no bad blood between them, assures Deepika. “Our equation won’t change. He has always been encouraging. The producers are better at taking decisions about when films should release, so I have no take on the clash.”
