PM’s visit hits Chennai traffic for the second consecutive day
Traffic was blocked for the entire route from airport until the University of Madras campus
Chennai: Traffic was thrown out of gear on arterial roads of the city for the second consecutive day on Friday owing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.
Traffic was blocked for the entire route from airport until the University of Madras campus on Kamarajar Salai when PM Modi took the road after landing in the city around 10 am and later during his return to the airport after meeting with CM J. Jayalalithaa at her residence.
Traffic along arterial stretches, from GST road near airport until Little mount, Anna Salai, Sardar Patel road, TTK road and Kamarajar Salai, was a real picture of trouble for motorists and commuters.
Similar snarls were witnessed between 2 pm and 4 pm when the PM returned to airport. Traffic moved slowly Greenways road, TTK road and Kotturpuram when he visited Poes Garden and MRC Nagar, police said.
“We have no other option, ut to block traffic as it is warranted by the security protocol for the Prime Minister,” said a senior traffic police officer. Cops pooled in from all wings were posted every 20 metres along important stretches until the PM left the city.
