Karan Tacker has been getting great feedback on his turn as a host on the latest music reality show The Voice India. In a candid chat, he gives us a glimpse of the man he is behind the screen.
Unlike your contemporaries, you don’t seem to socialise much. Why?
I am a total homebody. I love chilling at home with my family and friends. I like to have conversations more than partying in clubs. My weekends are booked for family fun with my mum, dad, sister and brother-in-law. All my friends are from out of the industry. And probably that’s why, you don’t see me going crazy posting pictures on social networking sites. Also, I am a private kind of guy anyway.
Given a chance, would you play Viren (from Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai) again? And who would you pick to be Jeevika?
Of course I’d love to play Viren again, probably a flashback sequence — like why Viren became such a responsible guy, what circumstances lead to it, like a Batman Begins kind of story. And I can’t imagine anyone else but Krystal D’Souza in Jeevika’s role.
A Bollywood actress you hope to share screen space with?
I really like Deepika Padukone, she’s super-talented. I loved what she did in Ram Leela — her spectrum of talent is really wide. Also, I believe she brings good luck to films at the box office.
Favourite corner in your home and why?
It’s in what we call the family room. I have this one spot on the couch right opposite to where my father sits usually. We both wake up every morning and sit in our spots and have long chats. Sometimes, my mother has to literally push us off from our spots to take a shower. I like it because my entire family gets together here every morning before we all head out to work. All the wise ideas spring out in this room.
How do you deal with trolls on Twitter?
Honestly, it’s upsetting at times, especially when these guys say the wrong things about your family. But ignorance works fine for me. And then there’s this whole bunch of love you get, which totally overshadows the trolls.
How important are friends in your life?
I believe in preserving relationships and I highly value them. I am still closely in touch with my boys from school. Be it friendship or any other relationship, I feel these bonds are more important than success and popularity. What’s the point if you have fame and no one to celebrate it with?
