8-year-old boy from Jharkhand has the world’s biggest hands
Suffering from rare form of giantism, the boy hopes to finally attend school after treatment
Mohammad Kaleem always stood out from the rest of village kids. Suffering from a rare form of giantism, his hands were disproportionately large, earning him the title of the “devil’s child” in the small village of Jharkhand state in India. But now things will change for the better as Kaleem has undergone a major surgery to reduce the massive size of his hands.

The eight-year-old boy had immense difficulty trying to carry out even simply daily chores like eating, taking a bath and dressing himself. He was refused admission to the local school and was regularly bullied.

But after his plight was highlighted by several international newspapers, Kaleem and his family were approached by medical experts in south India, who diagnosed his condition as macrodactyly, or localised giantism.

Kaleem’s journey has been documented in a film that follows the family’s journey to Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, where he undergoes multiple surgeries and physiotherapy to make his newly-reduced hand more functional. Happy with the results, his parents are also considering getting his left hand operated.

What's more, if things go well, it won’t be too long when Kaleem will be finally able to study alongside other kids in his local village school. The school headmaster even assured they were “instructing our schoolchildren to not bully Kaleem”, as reported by the Daily Mail.
