Bengaluru child rape: Rape victim’s father approaches Maneka Gandhi

Seeks water tight case against perpetrator, school authorities

BENGALURU: The father of the three-year-old preschool student, who was raped by a 25-year-old watchman at her school in Indiranagar, on August 3, has sent a letter to Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, asking for a watertight charge-sheet to be submitted within 90 days. Copies of the letter have also been sent to the National Human Rights Commission, Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the State Child Welfare Committee.

The father of the victim has sent the letter to Ms Gandhi on Friday requesting her intervention into the sexual assault case. A resident of Shivajinagar, he has also requested the ministry to take necessary action in this case as soon as possible to bring justice to his daughter.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said, “Though the accused has been arrested and is in judicial custody, I want justice for my child. I have also requested the ministry to initiate all forms of necessary interim immediate compensation for my daughter’s health.” Meanwhile, the police said that the investigation is going on in full swing and the police would file a charge sheet against the accused soon.

The girl who went to a private school in Indiranagar was sexually assaulted inside the school premises by a watchman, Gautham, a native of West Bengal. The incident came to light after the survivor narrated the happenings to her mother after she complained of pain in her private parts. The girl was taken to Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital where the doctors examined her and confirmed that she was assaulted.

Gautham, who was arrested by the Indiranagar police last Tuesday, had confessed to committing the heinous crime. The Secretary and the Headmistress of the school were also arrested by the police last Thursday on the charges of security lapses in the school and for flouting the norms for the staffers background verification check under POCSO Act.
