Karnataka: How about kabaddi to get villagers on board?
SHIVAMOGGA: Kabbadi can build bridges and the cops in Kotegangur village in Shivamogga taluk were out to prove this beyond doubt on Monday by playing the game with villagers.
In the end the cops outplayed the villagers but this was no ordinary game. The cops had adopted the village to develop it and had decided to play the game to build a good rapport between the force and villagers.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer B. Ramu who inaugurated the event, advised villagers to join hands with the police department for their overall development. They should not indulge in criminal activity, instead, they should help the police reduce crime, he said and added that he would direct the heads of other departments to extend support for the development of the village.
A team of police officials, led by superintendent of police Ravi Channannanavar and additional superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, interacted with residents. The police personnel took part in the tug-of war and other activities with the residents. Cultural programmes were held as part of the adoption ceremony.
Mr Channannanavar said the objective of the adoption programme was to clear wrong notions prevailing among people about the department and forges closer bonds with them.
