Kochi Cop forgoes day’s salary in loving memory of APJ Abdul Kalam
Kochi: For a Kochi cop, working an extra day wasn’t enough to pay a tribute to Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Reghu P.S., a civil police officer attached to the control room of the Kochi City Police, went one step ahead and asked city police commissioner to cut one day's salary as a respect to the late president.
After Mr Kalam’s demise, the Facebook was abuzz with posts and his quotes.
One of the popular quote “Don't Declare Holiday On My Death, Instead Work An Extra Day, If You Love Me” went viral and even state governments across the cou-ntry didn’t declare a holiday.
In his letter to commissioner K.J. James, Mr Raghu stated that he was an ardent follower of Dr Kalam and so he needed to fulfil the dreams he shared.
“I haven’t taken a leave in July. Since I haven’t taken a leave, I am in line for an extra allowance. So I would request you to cut a day’s salary,” he said in his letter to the commissioner on August 8. The letter is pending consideration before the commissioner.
Several government offices in Kerala had decided to work an extra day as a tribute to the departed leader.
Chief secretary Jiji Thomson also landed in trouble after he announced that Sunday, August 2, would be a working day for schools and government offices.
