‘Free price policy’ for liquor in Andhra Pradesh
The AP govt has decided to allow liquor manufacturers themselves to decide the price
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to allow liquor manufacturers themselves to decide the price of their products, under the so-called ‘free price policy’ which will come into force from September 1.
Previously, the state government used to constitute a committee to decide the price of liquor and beer. The government had increased the price of beer recently, and these may not be changed now.
According to Excise officials estimates, that the manufacturers may increase the liquor price by about 15 per cent over the existing price. Due to this the government will get around Rs 500 crore additional revenue through Value Added Tax (VAT).
