Posh pooches
A dog may be a man’s “best friend” — but how much are you willing to shell out for that pet pooch? A Tibetan Mastiff recently became the world’s most expensive dog when it was bought for a cool $1.6 million. But if a Tibetan mastiff isn’t the breed for you, there are other pricey pooches you can consider. From Akitas and Lowchens that will set you back by a cool $5,000 or more… to Canadian Eskimo puppies that go for $7,000 or higher and even the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that is an expensive pet indeed to have (at $14,000 for a puppy), here’s a lowdown on the poshest pooches in the world.
Akita (Japanese Purebred): While faithfulness and loyalty are considered the foremost traits of dogs in general, the Japanese Akita rose to international fame for the same traits after Richard Gere starrer classic movie Hachiko: A Dog Story. A lively and courageous breed with a naturally plush coat intended to protect it from the harsh weather of its native, the Akitas are as renowned for their fearlessness and strength as they are for their loyalty and aesthetic appeal. While the Akita is available in two strains (An American and the Japanese purebred), the Japanese ones rank among the costliest dogs in the world, going for well upto $ 5,000.
Rottweiler: Fearsome and immensely strong, Rottweilers are often considered the proverbial guard dogs. They are also extremely popular with police forces across the world. One of the most popular breeds among pet dogs, the Rottweilers are a common sight in countries all around the world. But thanks to their popularity, a large section of the ones available in the market are usually crossbred. However, a purebred Rottweiler can cost an upwards of $ 2,000 and sometimes can go up to $ 8,000.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: A silky overflowing coat, an undocked tail, low hanging ears and the overall appearance of an exceptionally crafted teddy bear, this breed has been an all-time favourite among pet lovers the world over, especially in the UK. Friendly with both children and adults, this dog however, is known to require a lot of human attention. This royal toy dog is also notorious for the ridiculously high prices it sells at which can start from $3,500 and can go up to even $14,000 depending on certain aspects such as the coat and the colour.
