Anirban Lahiri ready to take on world
Having surged to 38th in the world rankings, Lahiri believes he’s ready to battle with the best
Bengaluru: Notching up a best-ever performance by an Indian at a Major by finishing tied fifth at the PGA Championship on Sunday, Anirban Lahiri has added yet another feather to his cap.
The 28-year-old has been setting the course on fire over the past year, being the only Indian to take part in all four Majors in the same calendar year while missing the cut in just one. With many firsts added to his name over the year, the Bengaluru-based golfer believes he is ready to take on the best in the world.
Having surged to 38th in the world rankings, Lahiri believes he’s ready to battle with the best. “I am definitely ready to compete with the best in the world. I believe I’ve always been ready to play alongside the cream of the golfing world and as of now I’ve reached a stage where I’m friends with many of them and am on a first name basis, which puts me in a great place,” he told this newspaper.
“Now that I have been a part of the Majors and played so many top competitions around the world I don’t feel the pressure of playing alongside these heavyweights. I’m past that stage. I have had a great year. I am much more confident and comfortable around these guys.”
The year has been a watershed season for Anirban. “My game feels great. I feel like I’m up there, ready for any competition. This is a huge stepping stone for me,” he said.
