Bengaluru-based designers tell us how to dress up this magical colour and strike the right chord with fashionistas

Take a cue from these city designers on how to dress up or dress down when going for white; strike the right chord and make white look just right, whether you’re a trendy traveller, or looking for a grunge look or you want to look like a diva and make heads turn. Here’s how you can convert the summertime staple to any season’s must-have.
Designer Susan Fernandes, states, “I love white! A crisp white linen shirt and white jeans are my go-to style. I like to pair it with a silver long chain and silver pumps. I love white knee-length dresses too. For me, fabric is very important when wearing white and has to be of a very high quality.”
There are no stringent rules when it comes to wearing white. The key is to pair it with something unexpected. Designer Reshma Kunhi explains, “All white looks very elegant. Who can forget
Simi Garewal who made a statement wearing only white as her signature style and looked fab everytime. But one must always pair it with the right kind of accessories. If you’re going for a white dress you don't have to wear white shoes or carry a white bag. Pair it with silver or gold and see how it works for you. If you’re slim, go for flowy silhouettes in crepes; if not, try a matte finish fabric like chiffon or georgette. A white short dress can be worn during any season – during summers wear only light weight white cotton dresses or shorts and for other seasons you can go for other fabrics. For a cocktail evening, a white off-shouldered long gown or sleeveless with some fine detailing can make you look like a diva.”
Wearing white should be fun. One need not try too hard to get the look right, affirms Bassam Osman, another city based designer. “Just keep a well-fitted white linen jacket handy and wear it over a dress or even with a pair of denims and a colourful bright shirt to office or to a coffee with a friend. With the right accessories you can even wear it to a party,” adds Bassam.
