Steps taken to improve airport’s ambience for GIM
Additional immigration counters to be set up
Chennai: Ahead of the Global Investors’ Meet – 2015 (GIM-2015), being hosted by the Tamil Nadu Government here on September 9 and 10, the department of operations has initiated several measures to improve Chennai airport’s ambience.
The measures include setting up of additional immigration counters, which are being provided at international departure, to ease passenger congestion, at a cost of Rs 15 lakh.
Expansion of international AIT (T3) arrival hall will be taken up to overcome congestion problem. The closed portion of Domestic KDT (T2) arrival hall is being merged with existing AIT.
Meanwhile, customs have agreed to install two more X-Bis x- ray baggage inspection system on arrival belts of KDT arrival hall. Several other embellishment works are also being taken up like; sculpture works through M/s. Sunny Systems at a cost of Rs 29 lakh; horticulture works through p-otted plants at a cost of Rs 10 lakh and beautification art/sculpture work in T3 at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. Further, exotic plants costing Rs 40 lakhs will be placed in different areas of terminal buildings.
Environmental Support Services, consisting of Routine cleaning works in T2 & T3 at a cost of Rs 74.40 lakh will also be taken up. Meanwhile, renovation of arrival toilets in T1 & security hold toilet in T4 where there is maximum footfall will be done at a cost of Rs 25 lakhs. Other works comprise deep cleaning of carpet lots at T1 & T4 at a cost of Rs 4 lakh and cleaning of glass panels from inside and outside of both NDTC (T1) and NITC (T4) at a cost of Rs 25.98 lakhs.
Furthermore, an additional feeder for airport from Tangedco for 110 KV source will also be taken up. “Chennai airport has been consistently improving its ASQ rating by its all round improved performance. It has secured a rating of 4.42 in the first quarter of 2015, which is improvement of 0.11 point over the last quarter. As per latest figures, it is 4.46. Meanwhile, the operational profits stand at Rs 37741.29 lakh,” said the airport director.
