Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan face-off
Hyderabad: For the first time after coming to power in the residuary state of AP, the Telugu Desam will be under immense pressure from the YSRC, the only Opposition party in the Assembly, when the Monsoon Session commences on Monday.
By all accounts, the YSRC would focus on issues like the ‘failure’ of the Chandrababu Naidu government to secure special category status for Andhra Pradesh, the death of 27 pilgrims in the Pushkaralu stampede, the cash-for-vote scam, the flip-flop on land acquisition for Amaravati and the alleged scam in Pattiseema irrigation project.
The party will also focus on the lack of safety for women against backdrop of the Rishiteswari suicide due to ragging and a ruling party MLA attacking an MRO.
Besides, rising prices of essential commodities, drought-like conditions, and allegations of government funds being siphoned off in the Neeru Chettu programme will come in handy for the YSRC to ‘expose TD’s misrule and failures’.
To avoid taking up a discussion on cash-for-vote scam, the TD is likely to concede to the demand of the YSRC for a discussion on the special status and also help it pass a resolution on the issue. The resolution would be sent to the Centre.
On the cash-for-vote scam, the Telugu Desam will take the stand that it is an issue to be debated in the Telangana State Assembly and not in the AP House.
