Cops try to trace caller who tipped off Maria about case
Mumbai: The Mumbai police has been trying to trace the person who called Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria, leading to revelations in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, senior home officials confirmed. The police wanted to establish the reason behind the act as the concerned person could be made an important witness in the case, sources said.
Highly placed sources said that more than two months ago, Mr Maria got a phone call from an anonymous person who tipped him about the murder of Sheena, step-daughter of television honcho Peter Mukerjea. A discreet probe was started and Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai spilled the beans during police interrogation. However, the police still didn’t know who the caller was and what his/her motive was behind revealing such information to Mr Maria.
“We are trying to trace the call. It has been confirmed that the call was made from somewhere in western Uttar Pradesh. We want to ascertain the motive behind the call. It is possible that a family member would have made the call owing to some family animosity or dispute; in that case, he or she can be made an important witness in the case,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the police decided not to regard the claims of Maya Rani Das, the mother of Siddharth Das, Indrani’s first husband, seriously,
as she has been mentally ill and had partially lost her memory. Maya Rani had claimed that Mikhail was not Das’s son or her grandson.
