Professor K Jayashankar missing from state job syllabi
KCR mentioned prominently in new TSPSC paper
Hyderabad: There is no mention of Prof. K. Jayashankar and the role he played in the T-movement in the syllabus for Group 1 and Group 2 exams to be held by the Telangana State Public Service Commission.
TSPSC had unveiled the syllabus for the exams, expected to be held next year, on Monday. However, an entire part of a section of the newly-introduced paper, Telangana Movement and State Formation, for Group 1 and 2, is devoted to the TRS and prominently mentions the fast unto death by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Except for Telangana Jana Sabha and Telangana Aikya Vedika, which were started by Prof. Jayashankar, there is no mention of the role played by the ideologue in the struggle for formation of a separate Telangana since 1948.
Prof. G. Haragopal, chairman of the examination scheme and syllabus committee, said that civil society personalities were generally not mentioned in the syllabus. He, however, added that Prof. Jayashankar had not been ignored.
“Generally we don’t mention civil society personalities in the syllabus because there are a number of individuals. But this is only a broad framework and Prof. Jayashankar’s role will be there in terms of questions in the paper etc.”
Another member of the committee meanwhile felt that mention of Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was “very inappropriate.” “Definitely, it was very inappropriate to mention Chandrasekhar Rao in the syllabus leaving out Jayashankar. There are many gaps in it and needs an overhaul,” a member of the committee said, asking not to be named.
Opposition parties have also been quick to point out gaps in the syllabus. The BJP pointed out that the Liberation Day was undermined and called it petty politics. “CM KCR’s history syllabus is faulty, especially in reference to September 17. Before implementing the new syllabus in the state, he should correct his own. What kind of politics is driving the CM to undermine the historic Liberation Day of Telangana from the Nizam?” BJP spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said.
The syllabus mentions only “Integration of Hyderabad State into Indian Union”. Prof. Haragopal meanwhile said that the syllabus could be revised later. Interestingly, some of the government schemes are mentioned while others are ignored. While Mission Kakatiya finds mention, the Water Grid project is ignored.
