Mumbai: Two police teams on Wednesday conducted simultaneous searches at two of the accused persons’ residences in Mumbai and Kolkata in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case while a third team questioned former Star TV CEO Peter Mukerjea and his brother Gautam Mukerjea at Khar police station in Mumbai in connection with alleged embezzlement, which is also being probed as a possible motive for murder of Sheena.
Peter Mukerjea was interrogated throughout Wednesday and left the police station around 11 pm. A second round of questioning is not ruled out. Peter and his wife Indrani had headed a media house, but quit in 2009. The police suspects that money from the media company’s bank accounts was transferred to some individual accounts related to the Mukerjeas.
“We have learnt during this time that they siphoned off money to the bank accounts of a few close relatives,” claimed a police source, adding they need to check this angle to see if there is any substance to it.
The police has begun their investigation of the financial trail to find out if embezzlement of money led to Sheena Bora’s murder. They are also taking the help of information technology experts to track the banking transactions of the Mukerjea family since 2009. Peter Mukerjea’s brother Gautam was also questioned. It has been learnt that Peter was asked about financial transactions after 2009 and how many bank accounts he holds.
It was also learnt that police interrogated Sheena's father Siddhartha Das. A team of three officials quizzed him for around two hours over his claim that he was the biological father of both Sheena and Mikhail.

Meanwhile, a team also visited Indrani and Peter Mukerjea’s posh Worli residence and conducted searches to see if they could find anything incriminating. Some documents and equipment were seized from their Worli residence. Another police team conducted searches at the Kolkata residence of accused Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani’s first husband, and seized some electronic devices, including a laptop, and some documents.
The police wants to find out how many bank accounts Peter, Indrani, Sheena and Sanjeev hold and/or operate, whether they have benami properties and benami bank accounts and, if so, how many. As reported earlier, Peter Mukerjea has still not been given a clean chit as the police feel he is hiding something. Police officials said they have started taking everything he says with a pinch of salt after he changed his statement that he always believed Indrani and Sheena were sisters.
