Nizamabad: Trade unions’ stir hits normal services
NIZAMABAD: General strike called by central trade unions affected transportation and banking services in Nizamabad districts on Wednesday. Hundreds of workers took part in the strike in protest against the proposed changes in labour laws and privatisation of PSUs.
Student unions called for boycott of classes in support of general strike. As a result, private schools declared half-day holiday on Wednesday. TS RTC officials did not operate bus services to main routes like Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nanded and rural areas. RTC workers also joined in the day-long strike.
The passengers faced difficulty with sudden suspension of RTC bus services. Neither RTC officials nor trade unions inform beforehand about the suspension of bus services. Passengers returned home from Nizamabad RTC bus stand. Banking services too were halted on Wednesday as the employees’ unions took part in the strike.
In view of the nation-wide general strike, police made elaborate security arrangements. Patrolling vehicles moved in the city and additional forces were deployed near bus stand and commercial banks.
