Teachers’ Day celebrated with reverence in Nellore district
Nellore: As many as 56 best performing teachers working in various parts of SPSR Nellore district have been felicitated by district collector M. Janaki, ZP chairman Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy, Nellore rural legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and MLC Vithapu Balasubrahmanyam during a colourful function held at Sri Kasturba Kalakshetra on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on Saturday.
The teachers were picked up for the honour based on 100 per cent enrolment, pass percentage, creative teaching, taking initiative to admit the dropouts and developing greenery, labs and library in the schools among other factors. Some of the recipients of the award received standing ovation for admitting more than 100 dropouts and saving some schools from closing by encouraging parents to send their children to schools. In some cases the teachers prevailed upon the parents to bring back their children working in towns and admit in the schools.
Elsewhere in Chittoor district, teachers’ day was celebrated in memory of Dr Sarvepalle Radhakrishnan with reverence. All paid rich floral tributes to the portrait of Dr Radhakrishnan.
The district administration organised the teachers’ day in Mahati Audi-torium in which as many as 1,000 teachers were felicitated with ‘Best Teacher’ award. All the speakers who addressed the function suggested the students to habituate discipline, hard work which will help achieve high peaks in their career.
MP Sivaprasad, local MLA Suguna, district collector Siddarth Jain, Chandragiri MLA /Chevi-reddy Bhaskar Reddy and others participated.
Sanskrit Vidyapeetham organised teachers’ day by giving Swami Sivananda Endowment Memorial prize to 20 meritorious students in which each student was given '5,000 as prize money.
University vice-chancellor Hare Krishna Satpathy said the university will offer prize money to deserving students to encourage them from fund which was given by the Divine Life Society. He urged the students to respect their gurus who are imperative to get knowledge.
Many schools and colleges also celebrated teachers’ day by paying floral tributes to Dr Radhakrishnan.
Meanwhile, Ongole joint collector I. Prakash Kumar urged the teachers to work with commitment and dedication. He addressed a meeting held in TTD Kalyana Mandapam on the occasion of Teachers’ Day in Ongole on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he reminded the services rendered by the late Dr Radhakrishnan to the field of education and directed the teachers to mould the students as good citizens. He garlanded the portrait of Dr Radhakrishnan and paid tributes to him.
MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy explained steps taken by the government to provide quality education to the students and added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is striving hard for the development of the state.
He said that 90 teachers have been selected for best teachers out of 22,000 teachers in the district. He said that the state government was giving top priority for education and health sectors. Earlier, he presented “Best Teacher” awards to teachers and felicitated them. District education officer M. Ramalingam was present.
