Bengaluru: Fayum Baig, who killed three unsuspecting children of Nazima Begum by pushing them into a manhole, was so besotted with their mother that he constantly threatened to slit his throat if she refused to marry him. Even as a devastated Nazima demanded that the “monster” (Fayum) be handed over to public and beaten to death for killing her children, one of her kin explained how the accused, an electrician, used to stalk her and repeatedly threatened to kill himself if she turned down his proposal for marriage.
“Nazima was married off to Iliyas Baig at an early age of 15. After Iliyas deserted Nazima and went to Hyderabad because of financial problems and a domestic row, Fayum who had a crush on Nazima, used to tell her that Iliyas was no good and did not even earn well. Both their families knew of the affair. Fayum was thrashed by local residents two months ago after he was caught by them at Nazima’s house. When the neighbours reprimanded Fayum, he said he was visiting her to discuss about their wedding. After Fayum’s family told him not to marry Nazima as she had three children, Nazima had told Fayum that she will not marry him until his family accepted her children,” her kin told the Deccan Chronicle.
