Godavari river water enters Krishna district
Vijayawada/Rajahmundry: Water from the Godavari entered the Krishna district on Tuesday, heralding a new beginning for irrigation and drinking water supply in the state. Godavari water is expected to reach the Prakasam barrage on the Krishna by September 15.
Nearly 500 cusecs of water that was released from Godavari reached Pallerlamudi village near Nuzvid in Krishna district. According to officials, this could be a run-up to the much-publicised Pattiseema project that will link Godavari and Krishna rivers apart from supplying water to Rayalaseema.
People celebrated the water entering Krishna district by offering prayers at the village and performed Poorna Kumbh Harathi. Local leaders including MP Maganti Babu and Mr Ch Prabhakar participated in the celebrations.
As Pattiseema pipeline works are not yet complete, nearly 600 cusecs of water from Tatipudi was sent by the Polavaram right main canal.
