‘I was meant to be in this field’
After playing a child artiste, Dhruv Raj Sharma is back in on TV after years, as the male lead in the horror comedy, Zindagi Abhi Baki Hai Mere Ghost.
“I have been doing shows on television since childhood. I played the minor’s character in Amanat and then I also played a good role in Nina Gupta’s production house… I have also done a South film, which was not released. I have also done a small-budget Hindi film which released only in the Delhi territory,” says Dhruv.
“But during my school days, I was passionate about badminton. I went to a boarding school near Lonavala. Later, I studied at Hindu College in Delhi and after graduation, I took drama classes with of Neeraj Kabi, (actor in Ship of Theseus),” adds the young actor.
“The Tamil film which did not release was a remake, about a person who does stuff only after after the flip of a coin. It was a great role,” adds Dhruv. And about his reasons from moving away from sport, Dhruv says: “The reality in sports is that even after getting a gold medal, life is tough (he was a national level player). I could see no future in sports. However, I was lucky to have been nurturing this desire for acting and I started giving auditions.
“Because let me tell you one thing, no matter how much you try, you will get whatever you are destined for. So, I am sure I was meant to be in this field.”
Telling us how he bagged Zindagi Abhi Baki Hai Mere Ghost, Dhruv says, “I just accompanied my friends who are in the field. While I was with them, I was asked to audition. To my surprise, I was called for the second audition and thereafter for a look test… Mitali ma’am, the producer, happened to watch my audition test reel and she decided to take me up.
“When I joined the show, she she told me, ‘the only thing I would like to advice you is that you need to be groomed a lot’. She asked me to improve my diction as well. I took her advice seriously and I have been working on that sincerely,” he adds.
And Dhruv, fortunately, has fit well into the horror comedy genre. “I am a big yarn spinner and I have my own ghostly tales which I have heard from my grandmum. Actually, everyone believes me when I tell them ghost stories. However, I myself do not believe in ghosts.”
Talking more about the show’s storyline, he says, “It is the story of an orphan who wants to find his family. During his search he meets many people. My character has not yet come in contact with the female lead though.” And about his personal life, he adds, “I remember when my friends would go out with their girlfriends, they would tell their parents that they are going out with me. Such is my reputation. I am not really a flirt and I have a steady girlfriend who is working with a corporate firm.”
