‘Our Responsibility to Children’ to rehabilitate juveniles

Social rehabilitation of juvenile convicts is the need of the hour: Muneer

KOZHIKODE: “The social rehabilitation of juvenile convicts is needed to bring back our children to normal life,” said Social Justice Minister M.K. Muneer here on Saturday.

He was launching the district-level project, ‘Our Responsibility to Children,’ initiated by the social justice department. Film director Anjali Menon, ambassador of the project, applauded the efforts of the department in cooperation with the Kerala State Social Security Mission (KSSM) to help lead the children in the right path.

The minister said, “children commit thefts to lead a luxurious life, use drugs and go out of the control of parents, teachers and our society. They should be brought back to normal life at any cost,” he pointed out. The project aims at curbing the criminal tendency among children.

The ORC was earlier implemented in Kozhikode district through a team of police force, academic institutions and voluntary social institutions. It will also ensure students’ health care, create social awareness and protect them from various abuses.
