On space and light

Sreenath Reddy’s home at Kokapet has well defined interiors that bring about openness
A 4,000 sq. ft villa that boasts of openness and space, best describes M. Sreenath Reddy’s home at Kokapet. The founder and CEO of an IT company lives in this bungalow with his wife Sharada and son Srikar.
The first thing one notices in the house is the optimum usage of space and natural light. The couple agrees, “We wanted to have as much open space as possible. But we decided to have a partition in the form of a mural, or else someone who walked into the house could see the whole space.”
The Buddha mural has been placed on a wooden partition wall, separating the entrance lobby from the formal living room.
The home theatre
Talking about how the interior was designed, architect and interior designer Aparna Bidarkar says, “The idea was to have a very simple and resolved décor. The clarity from the family’s side helped us achieve it with ease.”
Each floor in the house is structurally divided in two levels, thus explaining the presence of a lot of stairs. “We decided to utilise the multilevels. We didn’t want it to look like a broken floor, so with the intelligent use of materials we wanted to keep the seamlessness of the place,” says Aparna.

But Sreenath’s favourite space is on the floor above — the home theatre. He lived in the US for 11 years and had even built a home theatre for himself in the basement. And Sreenath was personally involved in the making of this space. “The lights, the curtain for the screen, it’s all automated and can be controlled from my phone. I watch over two-three movies per week,” he says.
