CPM for manifesto by the people
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM will gather opinion from people for finalising its manifesto for the crucial local bodies elections slated to be held in November.
Sources said at the two day state committee meeting which began here on Friday, the party leadership decided to go to the people, seek their opinion, views on issues concerning them in their respective areas.
The party is thinking of installing opinion boxes in public places to elicit views. Besides, the party would also seek the views of prominent personalities in respective areas. The idea is to involve all sections of society in finalising manifesto.
Sources said the party is keen on having house visits by workers to exchange ideas with the residents on local issues in the run up to the polls.
The leadership is not prepared to take any chances in the crucial polls which in many ways also the semi final before the grand finale - Assembly elections in April 2016.
The party would also go for local level understanding with parties outside the LDF fold, barring Congress and BJP, to improve prospects of victory.
Image, past work, local connections will all be evaluated before finalising candidates for the local bodies to ensure that best faces are put forward before the people.
The state committee is also assessing the impact of SNDP’s move to have an understanding with the RSS-BJP.
The party is also planning to launch a campaign against Sangh Parivar’s attempts to appropriate social reformers like Sree Narayana Guru. Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan took part in the meeting along with central leaders.
