Church to discuss ‘responsible love’
KOCHI: The Catholic Church in Kerala is all set to conduct a major summit on the theme whether it should encourage healthy, responsible and non-exploitative love amongst pre-married couples on December 5 in Kochi.
The summit, based on the theme ‘Love; sin or grace’, is part of the Grace Ripples Couple Conference Ernakulam, will be organised by the Family Apostolate Centre Ernakulam (FACE) belonging to Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly.
FACE director Fr Augustine Kallely said that the theme was selected in the background of the increasing incidents of threat posed by love affairs to family life.
“The theme was selected for discussion as there is a need to differentiate between superfluous and responsible love,” Fr Kallely said.
The summit will cover subjects such as the challenges faced by healthy love, whether to encourage love marriages and whether the church should offer religious services to people in love.
Before the summit three regional level conferences will be held in Ernakulam, Angamaly and Cherthala on the subject.
The regional conferences will cover 2,000 family members. The issues discussed in the regional conferences will be reviewed in a pre-conference summit to be held at the Kaloor Renewal Centre on October 15.
The publicity brochure brought out in connection with the conference has displayed the theme “Church is a love story, not a bureaucratic organisation”, advanced by Pope Francis, prominently.
