Crowning Chennai’s capital
Celebrities talk about which area should be crowned the capital of the city
Chennai is a capital city, which is a known fact. But what if Chennai had to assign a capital for itself? Which area should be crowned Chennai’s capital and why? Madras Meter, a YouTube channel took it upon itself to assign a representative for different areas. The result was complete chaos with a maami from Mylapore and Kollywood fan from Kodambakkam fighting over which area is the best. Anna Nagar’s representative was bullied into leaving the discussion completely because it is nowhere close to the city. As DC watched this video, we wondered, which area do Chennaiites want to crown the capital of the city and asked a few celebs!
Vidyullekha Raman: Comedienne
If I had to choose an area, it would be Alwarpet. I consider it to be literally between south and north Chennai. Whether I have to go to Elliot’s beach, or Anna Nagar; it takes me the same time. And me staying here also makes my opinion biased! Everything you need is available in and around the city. But, Marina Beach is the first thing that would come to people’s mind and hence it should be crowned the capital of city.
Aadhi Pinisetty: Actor
I did my schooling in Don Bosco, Egmore and the area is pretty special to me just like Saligramam, which is where my childhood was spent. So to choose an area in Chennai is impossible for me. I like so many different areas for the different memories I cherish and to crown one area a capital is not possible.
Balaji: RJ
I have been in about 24 areas in Chennai so far from Adyar, Perambur, Mandaveli, and Red Hills to Kotturpuram. However, the ultimate of all is Mylapore. The agraharatha filter coffee to Ice house Madras Tamil, they have everything. You can meet all kinds of people in this area and of course, the beautiful girls I get to see when I went on evening walks didn’t hurt. On all 365 days a year, there is something that is always happening.
Aishwarya Rajesh: Actress
It is T. Nagar of course. Where else would one get to shop for things of all kinds? Not just that, this is also the heart of the city. The best part about this area is that anybody can shop here. From street shopping to the expensive boutiques, there are lots of options. The kind of food that is available here is also amazing. From fine dining to roadside pani puri — one can get it all. The connectivity with the rest of the city, of course helps.
