Not just for laughs
Kapil Sharma doesn’t want to restrict himself to comedy, is eager to try genres like drama, action
Kapil Sharma’s debut film — Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon — hit the theatres this Friday and while the comic caper definitely falls within the actor’s comfort zone, Kapil is hoping to explore different genres in his next films. The actor reminded us, “I come from a theatre background and comedy happened accidentally. Before that, I used to do serious roles in theatre. So yes, I’m looking forward to trying out different genres like drama and action in my future films.”
Of course, while he may have the acting chops required for the big screen, dancing is certainly not Kapil’s forte. Choreographer Ahmed Khan had recently attested to this. Responding to the statement, Kapil told us, “Ahmed is the best choreographer we have in Bollywood. It’s true that I had to rehearse before the shoot because dancing is not something I do every day. But I had fun doing it and now I’m comfortable with it.”
So now that he is serious about taking up more film projects, is it goodbye to the small screen? “My TV show is something I enjoy — I don’t do it for the money,” Kapil said. “It’s a show where I get an instant reaction from the audience and that helps me as an artiste. Even when I was shooting for and promoting my film, my Comedy Nights team cooperated and shot a bank of episodes to match my schedule. So I see no reason to quit my show.”
