Playing both angel and devil
Every Tom and Jerry fan would remember the sweet angel and the naughty devil twins who try to tempt the two into doing things. Jeethu Joseph’s recent movie Life of Josutty has a similar portrayal of angel and devil, and both the characters are donned by Kashmir ki kali Aqsa Bhatt.
Aqsa, a popular face in Kannada films and advertisement world, landed in Mollywood unexpectedly. “I was shooting for my Kannada movie at Wayanad when some of the crew members of Life of Josutty spotted me. When I got the offer, I was reluctant as it was a smaller role and my character didn’t even have dialogues! I was only supposed to emote according to the character’s emotion.”
“Until then, I had been playing the lead. But then my manager told me about Jeethu. I hadn’t seen any of his movies, but once I heard about Drishyam and his other works, I decided to give it a try. Besides, it was a double role as fantasy characters. That’s not the kind of role that comes your way often,” says Aqsa.
The pretty actress says many who watched the film couldn’t even identify that she had donned both the roles. “I got almost 90 messages from Kerala immediately after the release of the film, praising my character as the angel. A lot of friends too made the same comment. But when I asked them about the devil role, they were all surprised. They are like ‘Wait! You had a double role? You played the devil as well?’ But funny enough, I spent very little time for the character. The angel’s look was easy to figure out and we found the second look for me as the devil just the night before the shoot because Jeethu insisted the two should be poles apart. In fact, I did no homework for the character and only reached Kerala a week before the shoot of the film for a trial,” she said.
So, did she get to act with Dileep? “No. I did all my shots in front of a green mat and so had no combination scene either. I wasn’t even included in the posters of the film as it was a surprise character. I did call up Jeethu and fuss about it. But it has all turned out well in the end,” she adds. She will be next featuring in a couple of Kannada and Tamil movies as well.
