Cops on trail of Kochi’s ganja kingpin, nab his aide
Liju first came in a car while his aide Sajeer came on a bike as a pilot
Kochi: The Kochi City Police has been on the trail of the kingpin supplying ganja in huge quantities to youths in the city and nearly trapped him on Monday.
However, Mavelikkara native Liju Ommen managed to flee while his aide Sajeer (26) was nabbed by the cops and five kg ganja worth over Rs one lakh was seized.
Earlier, a high level probe led by City Police Commissioner M P Dinesh into the source of ganja revealed that Liju was the main dealer supplying the narcotics in Central Kerala. The cops then hatched a plan to trap him.
“We managed to contact him through middlemen and placed an order for 50 kilos of ganja. As part of the deal, they were supposed to deliver five kg at the rate of Rs 20, 000 per kilo. We asked them to deliver the substance at Kundanoor.
Liju first came in a car while his aide Sajeer came on a bike as a pilot. His aide who entered into a service road contacted us and we nabbed him immediately.
However, Liju who parked his car along the highway a little way away, fled from the scene,” said P R Santosh, Sub Inspector, Maradu Police.
The cops got vital information regarding the ganja source and the secret storage place upon interrogating Sajeer.
“We have passed on the information to the Mavelikkara Police while a statewide hunt for the kingpin has been launched,” the officer said.
Liju is an accused in at least three murder cases in Kayamkulam and Mavelikkara police stations besides several narcotic cases.
