KOCHI: The ongoing admission row at the Maharaja’s College is turning complex with the Maharaja’s College Protection Council demanding a comprehensive inquiry into this year’s admission process.
The demand has come even as the students under the banner of both KSU and SFI resorted to a strike on the college campus on Monday paralysing its functioning including exams.
The student outfits have threatened indefinite agitation if the issue is not resolved at the earliest. The protection council in a statement said there was no age stipulation for undergraduate admission to any university and prescribing age limit at Maharaja’s was unlawful.
It has landed 17 students in trouble, and they are agitating to get justice. The council said there were many intriguing episodes in the admission this year after autonomy was granted to the institution. They demanded action against erring persons in responsible positions for the lapses.
The Association of Kerala Government College Teachers (AKGCT) general secretary Dr K. K. Damodaran told DC that all the affected students deserved special consideration of an educational institution.
“Several of them belong to marginalised sections, some have family problems, some have health issues because of which they could not join the UG course immediately after completing their Plus-Two. Some others had gone to vocational courses to eke out a living but want to pursue degree courses now. They should not be discouraged at any cost,” he said.
